All About Teething

Teething is often a process that parents are afraid of. The truth is that it all depends on the children. There are infants that go through this process without too much problem while others can really suffer and give parents some stress.

Teething usually happens at around six months. There are cases that children have experienced it at their fourth or fifth month which is normal. In other cases infants has had to wait till their eighth month to see the first teeth. There is no case to worry if your baby is early or late and in case of doubt it is always good to consult your dentist to find medical help.

Symptoms of Teething

Teething can cause various symptoms that can be mistaken for other conditions if you do not have the necessary experience. In other cases there are infants that do not seem to have any problem and suddenly parents will see white teeth appearing through the gums.

One major symptoms of teething is that the baby drool more than before and this can cause some irritation problems on the skin. Parents should always try to wipe the skin clean to avoid any skin rash which will appear like small red spots under the lower lip or around the mouth. Skin rash can be very uncomfortable for babies and this can cause them to have difficulty to sleep specially at night.

Another symptoms of teething could be a light fever .This can be caused by bacteria or viruses that the child will have picked up when he or she begin to gnaw things in order to alleviate the pain of teething. The problem with this light fever is that parents can take this as a common cold instead of the process. If the fever persist then it will be advisable to go and seek medical help.

Other symptoms of teething could be swollen gums, sensitivity to heat and coldness and a haematoma. Swollen gums are sign that teeth may be coming out and this can cause some pain for the infant which they will try to alleviate by gnawing on objects. Sensitivity to heat and cold can be a direct result of the swollen gum while a hematoma is a small blister that may appear on the place that theywill erupt. A haematoma can be very painful for teething infants and parents should be on the watch for this

This can be a painful process for children and parents alike. Fortunately it does not last that long and only the first teeth seems to be the most painful. As soon as the infant get used to this process then it becomes a bit easier.
