Skin Care - Avoid Those Rashes In Body Folds

Rashes in body folds are also called as Intertrigo. This is generally a problem of summer when heat is more and folds and parts of the body perspire a lot and remain moist. Intertrigo causes rashes that appear on the skin because of fungus, bacteria or moisture. Intertrigo affects those areas of the body that are normally moist such as skin under the breasts, body folds, etc. Body folds also experience a lot of friction that causes heat and is ideal for fungus growth. The treatment of Intertrigo depends upon the type of infection.

Intertrigo- Symptoms

The affected skin turns red with itching. Pustules and bumps may appear and skin also develops raw spots. Skin becomes sensitive to touch.

Intertrigo- Causes

The major cause of this condition is the yeast candida. This condition may also be due to bacterial infection. Candida thrives in the moist body folds and multiplies rapidly to cause skin rashes. Bacterial infection may also cause this condition.

Intertrigo- Treatment And Prevention

Keeping the affected area dry is the first step. If you are diabetic, you may be more prone to such infections. Allow the affected skin breathe as much as possible. Your doctor will find out the cause of infection. In case of candida infection, your doctor may prescribe anti-fungal formulations for local application. If bacterial infection is present, antibiotics may be prescribed for application or oral intake. The best method of prevention is to make skin dry as soon as possible after any water related activity. Give air to the skin folds for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day. Keep the rashes open to air and let the skin breathe fresh air. That will dry the skin naturally and help treat the rashes.
